Ross get their season running with win

AFTER picking up just one point from their first two High Bridge Jewellers Gloucester 1 matches, Ross came away from Painswick with their first win to get their season up and running.

They played some fine open rugby along the way and were worthy winners at the final whistle.

Both sides looked to attack, but it was Ross who drew first blood.

Bas Parker started the move, the forwards took the ball into the danger area and Ali Rees kicked the penalty after the home side were penalised.

After defending for a while, Ross scored from a movement starting inside their own half.

A flowing passage of play saw the ball move through the hands of at least half the side and finished with Rees trotting over to score the first try.

This should have triggered a rout but, in practice, it did the opposite.

Spurred on by a vociferous crowd, the home side pulled the score back to 8-7 with a converted try when Ross spilled the restart.

But Rees stretched the lead to four points with another penalty.

Second-half tries for Matt Taylor and Ali Hunter Blair pushed the score to 21-7 with less than 10 minutes to go.

With time running out the home side pulled seven points back with a converted try.
