DRINKING alcohol in Kington town centre has been banned for good after Herefordshire Council decided to make it a permanent rule.
Councillors at a regulatory committee meeting on Tuesday voted unanimously to enforce a ban first imposed last year following cases of drinkrelated crime and anti-social behaviour.
Members heard licensing officers had contacted licensees affected by a review of the order, which was initially made for 12 months, but that none had replied.
Kington Town Council and police were also approached and both expressed support for the application.
Approval means officers, including community support officers (CSOs), can continue to take alcohol from anyone drinking it in areas specified by the order – such as the recreation ground – in a bid to tackle disruption and disorder.
