POLISH and German students were given a classic taste of British life on a visit to Kington.

They spent time with pupils and staff at Lady Hawkins’ School sampling, among other things, fish and chips and a full English breakfast.

The trip was part of an EU funded project designed to compare development and lifestyles between the two countries, and also included a day out in Aberystwyth and a trip to Birmingham.

The guests were also fortunate to be included in the school’s annual Foundress Day celebrations, marking the day founder Lady Hawkins opened it more than 350 years ago, and were especially impressed as both schools visiting were not more than 17 years old.

Return journeys to Poland and Germany are now being planned for the Kington students who hosted them after they also learned a lot from their visitors.
