A HEREFORD pupil is poised for academic excellence after being awarded one of the most prestigious scholarships in the country.
Cathedral School student Ruirui Bowen has been promised a choral scholarship at King’s College in Cambridge next year if he achieves top pass rates in his A-level exams.
The youngster hopes to emulate his father Geraint Bowen, who is organist at Hereford Cathedral, by also joining the college’s prestigious choir alongside his studies there.
Headteacher Paul Smith said Ruirui, who plays several instruments and will sing in the BBC Choir of the Year competition final later this year, would be carrying on a strong tradition the school has with choral success.
