BRIGHT ideas are needed to tackle problems caused by the decision to switch off street lights in Hay-on-Wye.
The town council and county councillor Gareth Ratcliffe want residents to pinpoint those areas most affected by a Powys County Council ruling earlier this year which saw two out of every three lights in Hay turned off.
The authority put out alternate lamps across the county back in June as a way of cutting costs, despite various objections.
Coun Ratcliffe, who lives in Hay and is leading a small group carrying out the work, offered to donate his pay increase to the project but was turned down by town councillors who said they were grateful, but that it was unnecessary.
He said: “I would really encourage people to make their views known either to me, the mayor Peter Lloyd or via Lesley Moore, the town clerk.”
The idea is that danger zones the group says were created by the ‘highly unpopular decision’ can then be highlighted at a county council meeting to review the move, which is due shortly.
