THE latest Brightwells classic car auction crashed through the credit crunch to raise more than £750,000.
The hammer eventually came down on 74 vehicles – one of which went for way over its initial estimate.
Brightwells’ classic car expert James Dennison said: “As ever, good cars did particularly well and there was no shortage of bidders for well sorted machines with no issues to address.
“Many of the more average cars also found willing buyers, but vendors necessarily had to take a more realistic view on values.”
The big drama on the day was a fierce bidding battle between two private buyers for a “magnificent”
1933 Lagonda Tourer that pushed the price £20,000 above its estimate to top £74,800.
Other buys included £45,650 for a Jaguar SS100 replica; £45,100 for a restored 1953 Jaguar Drophead Coupe; £42,625 for a 1955 Aston Martin and £38,500 for a 1964 Porsche 911.
