STAFF and children at a pre-school built with lottery funds are celebrating another success.

Burley Gate Pre-school has been given top marks following a surprise Ofsted inspection in October.

The facility was labelled “outstanding”

in 11 judgements and “good” in the remaining three by inspectors.

The report also praises the “extremely high” teaching standards, and says there is outstanding capacity for improvement. The pre-school opened in 1975 but moved to a log cabin behind the village hall in 2005 thanks to lottery funds and grants.

Manager Sue Podmore is delighted with the results, and claims the cosy environment is part of the success.

“I’m thrilled and I know the parents are absolutely thrilled,” she said.

“I think it’s because we’ve got a very good team – we’ve got dedicated people putting the work in to make sure children do things that are interesting, exciting, and what they want to learn about.”

The quality of leadership, management and parent relations are also highlighted in the report released last week.
