A BROMYARD man of “limited intelligence” who sexually abused two young schoolgirls has been jailed for five years.
The victims visited Phillip Green’s flat where he gave them presents, cash, alcohol and allowed them to smoke, Worcester Crown Court heard.
Last month a jury convicted 55-year-old Green, of Awbury Way, of 10 counts of indecent assault between 1996 and 2001.
Judge Richard Rundell said a report by the probation service assessed Green as posing a high risk of harm to young children.
The judge added: “You bought them presents and, in exchange, took advantage of them for your own sexual gratification. I accept that you are of limited intelligence and there was no violence involved.”
Peter Cooke, defending, said jail was “immensely punitive” to Green, who had made a suicide bid while locked up after the trial.
He was a sad, lonely man who feared for the future and the chances of his offences being repeated were reduced by his advancing years, he told the court.
Mr Cooke said Green still denied the sex attacks. He added that Green had learning difficulties and it was understandable that he chose not to give evidence at his trial.
