A PARISH council could take control of a Herefordshire beauty spot if new plans are approved.
Herefordshire Council has launched a consultation into the way the Bromyard Downs are managed.
The 286-acre common lies two miles east of Bromyard and contains woodland, heathland and grassland.
The beauty spot was overseen by Malvern Hills District Council until 1998, when Herefordshire Council took over. A management committee appointed by Brockhampton Group Parish Council currently looks after the site.
The consultation runs until December 20 and three options are being considered: ● Giving management responsibility to the parish council, with possible changes to committee.
● Creation of a joint committee involving the parish council, Bromyard Town Council, and Herefordshire Council.
● Giving management to Herefordshire Council with advice from a committee.
Alan McLoughlin, assistant chief executive, wants local people to have their say before the options are considered by Herefordshire’s cabinet.
“We want to gather the views of those who have an interest in the Bromyard Downs and are keen to see them protected for future generations,”
he said.
Herefordshire Council has contacted interested groups while further details are on the council’s website.
Documents are also available at the Bromyard INFO shop and library, and can be obtained from Alec Dubberley on 01432 260088.
