I wonder if your correspondent who spotted strange globes of light in the Hereford sky was experiencing the phenomena known generally as orbs.

These, often caught on camera and by some with the naked eye, are becoming more common in the 21st century.

My sister and I first saw them when visiting holy wells in Cornwall in the early 1990s. Since then we see them most evenings and sometimes in daylight. There is much speculation about their identity, from dust on the lens to spirits. As my sister and I go orb spotting together and get the same image from different cameras, I doubt the former. We feel a presence when they are around and are convinced these orbs have consciousness.
