SCHOOL OPEN DAY – Burley Gate Primary School will hold an open afternoon tomorrow (Friday) from 1.45pm to 3pm. Staff and governors will be on hand to highlight activities in the reception classroom. Everyone is welcome.

FIREWORKS – The annual fireworks display is on Saturday, November 1, at Presteigne Football Club. A torchlight procession will leave the Royal Oak at 6.30pm and proceed to the football club where the bonfire will be lit at 7pm followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Primary school children only are welcome to turn up at 6.15pm to carry a torch. Admission to the display is £3 for adults, £1 for senior school children and free for primary school children and below. Afterwards there is a free karaoke in the clubhouse.

COFFEE MORNING IN AID OF MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT – Doris Edwards will be hosting a coffee morning at Preston on Wye Village Hall tomorrow (Friday) from 10.30am to noon. There will be a bring-and-buy stall and raffle. All welcome.

The Golden Valley Environment Group hosted a Green Supper with a Self-Sufficiency "Flavour" on 18th September in Vowchurch Village Hall. What a great venue! Everyone brought a dish of food to share, made from home-grown or locally produced ingredients. The food did not disappoint! The result was a delicious buffet supper, produced with a minimum of food miles!

Pudleston Garden and Nature Club enjoyed its annual show, having another good day despite the difficult year and a reduced number of entries. Sandra Backhouse won the overall show and received her prize and the cup from club chairman, Sheila Taylor. The children’s cup was won by Charlie Rees and we are grateful to the judges, Mike and Jean Kimbery and Maurice Bracher, who freely gave of their time.
