CHURCH SERVICE – Harvest Festival will be celebrated at St Mary’s Church today (Friday) at 7pm. The service will be followed by a bring-and-share supper. Everyone is welcome.

FERRETT OLYMPICS - A score of frisky ferrets took part in the annual ferret olympics at the Cross Keys public house in Withington, and some even found new homes. Eleanor and Harrison Chaplain came to watch the games and ended up with a new pet they named Minstrel. The event was co-organised by Mark Phillips and Robert Taylor and the profits went to the County Air Ambulance. We are all looking forward to next year's event.

Our Harvest Festival Service will take place on Sunday October 5th at 3 pm. Tony Charles and Rana Davies-James will take the service. Tea will be served after the service in St Andrew's Church, Bredwardine. If you can provide cakes or savouries as refreshments, please bring it along to the service. Everyone is welcome, whether you normally attend church or not. We all have something for which to be thankful!

This week saw the completion of our second year of Butteryfly Transects which is part of the Merbach Commons Project. Butterfly Monitoring was carried out weekly through the summer, beginning April 1, ending September 29, 2008.

Reminder! Sheila Spence, a local field mycologist, is coming to Merbach Hill Common to lead a Fungus Foray on Monday, October 6th at 10 am. Sheila will describe the ecology and life-cycle of British fungi and will lead a walk to discover which species of fungi can be found on the common at this time of year.
