A FORTHCOMING exhibition at the Apple Store Gallery is the culmination of a lifetime ambition for artist Richard Bavin.
As a small child he had wanted to be an artist, but it was only eight years ago, in mid-life, that he finally took the plunge and gave up his career in IT to study Fine Art at Hereford College of Arts and pursue his passion.
He has now graduated with honours and has recently completed a two-year painting project in a Herefordshire wood – “A lost world of sandstone, oak and silver birch, ferns and dappled light.”
For the past two years Richard has been sitting for hours in all weathers, observing nature at close quarters and making charcoal drawings, watercolour paintings and colour swatches while he’s there.
He then uses this work as a springboard for studio work using oils on traditionally prepared gesso panels, with the aim of evoking the beauty and essence of the woodland.
Richard’s solo show will be at the Apple Store Gallery in Brockhampton from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday, September 13, 11am-4pm Thursday to Sunday, 10.30am-5.30pm daily except Wednesday during h.Art (September 13-21) More of Richard’s work will also be on display at Artsite3, the new co-operative studios in central Hereford, during h.Art week.
